After finishing the Master in Economics: Empirical Applications and Policies, some students may be interested in pursuing with a Ph D in our Program in Economics.
Admission in our Ph D Program requires acceptance from the Executive Committee. Candidates will be evaluated in terms of their performance in the Master in Economics. Exceptionally, candidates with a similar Master degree from another University may be also accepted in our Ph D Program.
Before starting the research period of the Ph D Program, accepted students are required to take a second year of advanced courses, either at our University or preferably at another European University suggested by the Executive Committee.
After passing this two-year teaching period, students are assigned a supervisor of our program to start working on the Ph D Thesis. It is expected that this research period takes between two and at most four years.
Thesis Supervised by our Faculty
The program is designed to be completed in one academic year.
During the fall term, students take economic theory and applied courses, in which they develop the analytical, quantitative and programming skills necessary for the winter term's courses. During the spring term, students write a master's thesis on a selected topic.
The aim of the program is to provide a sound understanding of economics and its applications.
Students in the program learn empirical modes of inquiry and quantitative methods, and how to apply these to investigate economic issues. After completing the program of study, graduates will have the knowledge and skills to conduct independent analyses for governments and private institutions, or will be well trained to pursue a PhD in economics. All classes in the master's program are in English.
