The Master in Economics: Empirical Applications and Policies is a one year full-time official research program organised in Bilbao by The Department of Foundations of Economic Analysis II at The University of the Basque Country with the cooperation of invited lecturers and visiting faculty members from other universities and research institutions. Our students seek to specialize in the empirical analysis of specific markets: labour market, monetary market and energy markets and their connection to natural resources and environmental issues. Highly motivated students with a bachelor's degree in economics, or any other comparable undergraduate major such as engineering or mathematics, are encouraged to apply for this program.
The program is designed to be completed in one academic year.
During the fall term, students take economic theory and applied courses, in which they develop the analytical, quantitative and programming skills necessary for the winter term's courses. During the spring term, students write a master's thesis on a selected topic.
The aim of the program is to provide a sound understanding of economics and its applications.
Students in the program learn empirical modes of inquiry and quantitative methods, and how to apply these to investigate economic issues. After completing the program of study, graduates will have the knowledge and skills to conduct independent analyses for governments and private institutions, or will be well trained to pursue a PhD in economics. All classes in the master's program are in English
